Category: Restaurants [Edit]
Neighborhood: Normal HeightsI miss this place.... I want to give it 4.5 stars only because I can think of a few "cucina"/kitchen style places that are a small notch above. But this is classic. Spacious too... and parking around Adams Avenue can always be had.
"GREAT FOOD, HORRIBLE SERVICE
Well let us start from the beginning of the experience. We enter the cute little restaurant and although it is not super busy, it is crowded and we are given a horrible seat (it was crowded). We wait about 5 minutes for them to ask for drinks. We then wait almost 15 minutes for our waiter. Two other groups come in, and our seated.
After the waiter takes our order, it is almost another 15 minutes before we receive our champagne and water. In case it is not clear, the champagne brunch was ordered, and at a discounted price of $19.95 for two. Be sure to check the Reader for this handy coupon.
In the 15 minutes that we waited for our drinks, both groups that had been seated as well as ordered after us had received their drinks already. We perhaps would not have ever received anything if we didn't remind the server about our drinks.
Shortly after this, our food came and looked excellent. My eggs were cooked just right, the tortillas were great, and the rice wasn't bad. Once the champagne was on the table, the glass never stayed empty for long, they had their alcohol hustle on, and I was able to get a nice little buzz on.
THE BOTTOM LINE:
Well I do believe that I was partly a victim of circumstance, but the service was, what it was. If you are willing to brave this, be prepared for a cheap, free-pour champagne brunch with a 4* Mexican breakfast that will fill you up, get you buzzed, and start you off right for a lazy Sunday."
Food was good and the service was personal. We went for the Sun brunch and they keep the champagne coming. Definitely worth the time and money.
I used to live off Adams Avenue and used to come here all the time with the deal they have in The Reader. Saturday and Sunday brunch are really good and the staff are not shy about filling up the bottomless cervesa (Saturdays) or champange(Sundays). The staff are really, really nice people and I miss them since I moved out of Normal Heights. Great place after a night of partying to fuel up the jets again.
I think their salsa verde is one of the best I've ever had.

Someone asked on the forum about favorite mexican foods and I was thinking man why havent i reviewed my favorite brunch time place. For years firends and i would go once a month to Casa Sanchez for the cerveza or champagne brunch which were on Saturday And Sundays. The food is wonderful and more like a traditional mexican restaraunt not an in/out taqueria. The food is perfect and the bottomless tecate on Saturday is well do I have to even spell that one out.. :) I get the pork chop breakfast, there are tv's and it's just a great little place. I highly recommend this Mexican restaraunt if your looking for traditional sit down mexican eats with a much more casual feel. Good price and great food.
