"The YOGURT WAR IS OVER in my opinion, this is THE BEST DAMN YOGURT PLACE IN TOWN!! It just opened on the corner of 4th ave. and G St. …" read more »
I used to eat here almost every day during the work week. Generous side salads, creative sandwiches, tasty soups, thrifty prices and good company kept me coming back.
Sadly, as of late September, Fuel has shut its doors forever. Best of luck to all the friends I made there-Lety, Amy, Eric, Zana...I miss you guys already. I miss your sandwiches, too.
California Grinders has excellent sandwiches for cheap, but they don't have a panini grill, so everything is cold. I'm still looking for a good Fuel replacement.

My friends call this the hippie place. I'd like a side of chakra cleansing with my fuel for my world, maaaaan.
Cheap jabs aside, this is a decent downtown breakfast/lunch spot. The coffee is very good and the salads are tasty (although I'll be asking them to hold the blueberries next time-- too sweet). The garlic bread that comes with the salad is so tasty, crusty french bread with butter and herbs. I really like the decor too, even though the place is a little dark. All black/grey with cool chairs and barstools. Oh, and one of the morning baristas is so so cute.
I wish they were open Saturdays.

I wanted to really like it, I really did. But I just kept comparing it to Pluto's and there was simply no comparison.
I had a cobb salad and one of the special herbal iced teas. The iced tea was surprisingly good. The salad was ok but was definitely lacking in freshness--some of the greens were a bit wilted and a little slimy. No harm done--I just picked them out. The garlic bread was a little on the stale side... like they had toasted it earlier in the day and it had lost its crunch.
I wasn't sure if everything was organic. If it was, then I would give the place another half star or maybe even a full one for being environmentally conscious.
I used to eat here multiple times a week when I lived in San Diego. It's close to a lot of downtown businesses, so it's perfect for a quick meal. You can even phone in your order and pick it up to save time. The staff is a little flighty and not exactly the friendliest, but the food makes up for the lack of service. The salads are amazing - try the California Golden. And the clam chowder rules. They also make a delicious grilled cheese w/ 5 different cheeses, pesto and tomato. Me likey.
i've been biking into here for as long as i've worked downtown, awesome staff good veggie food and tasty coffee drinks. yum!
