I dont know about you but i crave mexican food like my lungs crave air. but for some reason, when i get that craving, i am reminded of what heart burn and the green apple splatters feels like..... c'mon, you know you get it too. want some mexican food minus heart burn and the runs? Try this place. The food tastes so fresh and i am so amazed by the amount i am able to eat and only feel the discomfort in my belly over extending, not in my chest nor the toilet.
TMI for yelp. sorry, thats just me. only thing that sucks is the hours, they don't open late enough when i am drunk and ready for some carne asada fries.

i love their carne asada burritos. Yum. I wish i lived closer. We go here every time we visit San Diego.
A solid four stars for this place. We were there for happy hour: $1 street tacos (pollo, carne asada, carnitas) $10 pitchers of margaritas and some other good deals. It starts at 4 pm. and runs until or 9 or 11 p.m.
-- The food was authentic, nothing stellar, but it's solid, pretty fresh and fun to eat. No, it's not gourmet quality, but it's far better than anything else that only costs a buck.
-- Three or four tacos will be plenty to fill you up. Five or six if you're really hungry.
-- Margaritas are decent. They definitely don't skimp on the potency. I should've spied to see what tequila they put in.
-- The place was very clean, including the bathrooms.
-- The service was friendly and fast. Owner was there and seemed like a nice guy.
-- The fish tacos weren't part of the happy hour specials when we went. I wish those were grilled instead of deep-fried in batter. That's as close as I can get to saying anything bad about this place.
If you're in the Village with a a few friends and want a couple drinks and some food, you can't go wrong with the happy hour here. I'll definitely hit Mr. Taco again.

Being from the East Coast, I'll admit we don't have delicious fish tacos as Southern California/Tijuana does...we stumbled on Mr. Taco when we were walking around La Jolla and weren't in the mood to be at a sit down restaurant -- and we were jonzing fish tacos.
I fondly remember how wonderful & delicious the fish tacos were at Mr. Taco....and the shrimp burrito, and the salsa, and the guacamole....so awesome that we went there the next day too!

What a truly horrible dump of a place. It is cheesy and tacky like if wants to be "Rubios" or "Wahoos" but just can figure out that a place named "Mr. Taco" will never make it. Their logo is "Speedy Gonzalez" Like I really want to eat at a place that has a rat as the spokesperson/thing. Food sucks, bland, boring, and way over priced. As far a Ricardo V saying that the beer is "2 dollars" that was the best part, I needed a beer to wash down the toxic trash they call mexican food. I have never posted but feel I must now, I saw Ricardo V's other postings and he must be someone from the company, cause all he did was bash all the other mexican food places in la jolla. It says that he is from san marcos, funny that is where the other "Mr. Taco" is???? Really the postings made this place to be the Holy grail of mexican food when in fact they are cheesy knockoff selling overpriced, subpar mexican food. Don't believe all the postings that people put, save your time and try a new place without someone telling how good/bad a place is. Go in with a open mind. I know I will, cause Mr. Taco is one taco short .

What Mr. Taco has going for it is that it is cheap border style mexican food in the Village with generous portions. They thrive on quantity and not gourmet quality. Don't expect anything else and you will not be disappointed, maybe even pleasantly surprised.
Fish, chicken, and beef tacos are decent. The chicken is white meat so that's a plus but it's a little dry.
Fish tacos are freshly fried but the batter isn't spectacular.
They have a Chargers burrito which I have to try sometime.
They have beer on tap =)

Mr. Taco is a pretty big surprise in downtown La Jolla. Their portions are quite generous and their prices compete with the outskirts of La Jolla. I would visit this place 3 times a month and would always get a Charger Burrito without the enchilada sauce on top. So basically it's a burrito with the works. Second, their nachos are extremely filling and around $6. They have a pretty nice selection of beer and have a bar on the opposite side of the restaurant.
The place is kept very clean to attract the business workers of La Jolla and the bathrooms are also quite clean and modernly rustic. Overall this place deserves a solid 3.5 stars, but their cleanliness and good service will round up to 4.

A funny little side street mex restaurant in the village. Walk in order, from a large menu that goes from burritos and TJ style tacos (so they call them, not as good as the real thing), to cheeseburgers and fries. There is a seperate bar, never really seems to be going. Service is fast and nice. Food is pretty good, a welcome addition to the hood.

When I worked in La Jolla, this was my dinner place, and I'll still swing by here if I'm in the area. Their TJ tacos are awesome, full of cilantro and onion, and they actually have a decent salsa bar... I've been amazed how crap the salsa is here in San Diego.
For the price, when in La Jolla, I'd definitely recommend this place for lunch, though for dinner you're probably better off at Jose's unless you're on a serious budget.

What a find this place is! Seriously good tacos and burritos at a fantastic price! You really wouldn't expect a place like this to exist in La Jolla, but it's there and it's great.
Best item on the menu would be the Charger Burrito. I swear, this burrito will kick your ass. Seriously, it will have you begging for mercy, it's that big. Served 'wet style' with your choice of meat (I like their carnitas) it's topped with enchilada sauce, lettuce, and sour cream, this is a real sit down meal in a burrito; rather nice presentation plating for a burrito too. Two meals worth of food for about 5 bucks; got me through college!
