$1.45 for 3.3 litre soda, holy shit. I didn't even know 3.3 litre soda existed. I had to adjust my refrigerator shelves!!
Their eatery is choice compared to the other new Northgate Market in Chula Vista. I don't really understand why they have seating with umbrellas inside the store?? But that's hilarious all the same.
It's usually crowded, all the time actually. But try to find another market with the huge selection of hispanic food at amazing prices.

Ahhh this place is amazing. Seriously, it smells good the instant you step out of your car as you walk into the store. And they give out free samples of delicious goodies in the bakery!!
Pretty much everything I bought was delicious. I went kinda crazy too, so I tried and ate a lot of food from this fine establishment. First, the salsa bar is huge. We tried the salsa mexicana and some shrimp ceviche that was INTENSE in terms of spice. Also, the queso fresco and crema con sal was to die for. I would like to take baths in crema, I've decided. Add that with a little bit of onion, cilantro, and avocado and you are good to go.
We also bought some marinated meat which was delicious and make excellent tacos the next night. Their tortillas were also very very tasty.
So after walking around the sore for like an hour and buying A LOT of food for under $50, we decided to hit up the prepared food section. We tried the pupusas, empanadas, pozole, carnitas tacos, and mango aguas frescas. Everything was absolutely delicious! I can't wait until I return!!!

WOW Mexico without crossing the border! I am in!
They have all kinds of exotic meat cuts (lengua), fish, produce, and Mexican things you can't find in other regular stores. So if you need to make your authentic Mexican dishes at home this is the place to go.
There is a food court where you buy dishes (guisados) by the pound to take home and eat. They sell fresh tortillas and they also sell the masa to make them at home.
I was pretty impressed with the selection of fresh chiles that they have!
OMG I could make all kinds of different salsas with them!

Holy moly, I finally tried the bakery section of Northgate Market. YUM. Super-fresh offerings here.… Read more »
I am HOOKED on Northgate Market! It is out of this world.
Northgate Market is spic and span; the employees are friendly and helpful whether you are Spanish-speaking or not. The atmosphere is festive to say the least. The customers are friendly, also helpful, and welcoming.
THE FOOD IS TO DIE FOR. The prepared pollo asado and carnitas cannot be beat. The tortilla chips are crisp, non-greasy, and have a robust corn flavor. There is a wide variety of salsas, all of which are delicious. The seafood ceviche is fresh and tasty. The produce is fresh, and like all of Northgate's other food stuffs, very very reasonably priced.
All in all, Northgate is a perfect destination for all your shopping needs. Give yourself plenty of time to shop because it is a wonderful shopping/eating experience!!!!!

I am thoroughly impressed. Incredible selection of meat, salsas, ceviches, fruits, fresh tortilla, roasted chicken, fish, seafood. Unbelievable.
The cooked food area is amazing. I am completely blown away.
Pre-marinated seafood, chicken, beef. Cheap vegetables.
Check it out. The tacos were great. I ate like 6 of them today. So many different options for fillings.

Northgate Market is without a doubt the biggest, best, cleanest Mexican/Latin market I've ever been to. The cooked section is unbelievable and has all the stuff I love- lengua, cabeza, carnitas... You can even buy a cooked goats head if you so desire. I get a 1/2 pound of carnitas, a 1/2 pound of cabeza, and a pint of salsa aguacate from the cooked deli section. I then grab some still hot corn tortillas from the bakery section and the rest of the fixings for excellent tacos at home.
I also love the seafood section here and have made some bomb ass shrimp and octopus ceviche from it. Great butcher section also with all you need to make any carnivore very happy. I like the fruit bar where you can get sliced papaya and cactus apples which I love but can rarely find. I can't seem to leave this place without buying way too much cilantro and limes. They are so cheap I just can't help myself.
Everything at Northgate Market is clean and fresh. An amazing supermarket that really brings up the local community as well, which I fully appreciate. Go there! You will be impressed.

Lengua in Chile Verde- do I need to say more. It's prepared, hot and ready to consume, either rihht there in the store in their little food court or take home, but if you do, don't forget a sack of fresh and warm tortillas to go with it. Absolutely the best prepared Mexican food in a market and most restaurants here in SD. Try the Carnitas by the kilo, ask for samples they are more than generous.
The fresh produce section is better than whole foods or henry's and
hands down prices beat all major grocery chains. When I'm going to go grocery shopping I always look for an excuse to make the journey. It's not convenient to Pt. Loma but kicks butt on anything we have locally. Well worth the trip.

Lemme vouch for the food (and no, not the kind you buy to cook).
As you walk into this huge supermarket, on your left you'll find a restaurant/deli sorta hybrid. Stand in line and order tacos (carnitas are good) and an agua (de fresa, horchata, you get the idea). Find a place to sit and enjoy. 3 tacos are more than enough (seriously, they're huge) and the aguas are made fresh.
The staff is nice but sometimes "lento." For the most part the area is clean and big. Other items on the menu include chiles rellenos, enchiladas, etc. All of the food looks good, but I stick to my tacos de carnitas. I even have my roommate loving them (she's japanese).
For some authentic Mexican food, definitely head over to Northgate. I know it sounds weird to go to a supermarket for food, but trust me. They know what they're doing.

The most amazing supermarket I have been to, Mexican or otherwise. It's a true wonderland of delightfulness. Everything everyone else said here is true!!! HUGE, CHEAP, CLEAN. I love the hot food deli section the most. I love the pupusas there! They also have the best homemade aguas frescas there too. NOT from a machine. They rotate the flavors everyday it seems, but you can always count on horchata being one of them.
I can't stress enough how everyone should come here, even if you don't think you need to shop at a "mexican market" they have all you need and more and so much to explore and try. Just go and thank me later when you leave winded from the excitement of the experience!

I have come to the realization that Northgate Market is my Mecca.
Yeah, it's true.
The revelation occurred as I sorted through tomatillos today and became dazed by their wall of fresh pan de dulce. Every time I walk into this place I am inspired to see how many items I could make in the most authentic manner. -(i hate mex. fusion) - These are the things that make me happy. Unlimited possibilities as I put my best foot forward and keep it real!
Northgate got me through the holidays (and for the record -I don't want to see any tamales or menudo until next holiday season, folks!)
This market is HUGE! Think of a Vons x 2 and ALL MEXICAN products. The produce has specialty items you won't find at Albertsons such as nopales, tamarindo, etc.
The bakery department plays host to some of the finest conchas this girl has sampled in SD. Pan de dulce, bday cakes, and holiday specialties. Today they had enormous Rosa de Reyes rings sitting there ready for the Thee Kings/Epiphany celebration
( http://en.wikipedia.or...)
Just the acknowledgment of these holidays makes this brown girl smile. Think about it - who does not like to go home and enjoy what makes them..well....them!?!?!?!
The meat counter spans the whole back wall of the store. EVERY single part of a cow and pig is available for your consumption. YUM!! Canned goods rock. No need to head to the Motherland to La Commercial Mexicana anymore. I'm so pleased. An endcap of dried chilies not to mention a full cheese and salsa bar?!?! Heaven, I tell you!
Yeah, they have ready made dishes for you to pick up and take or eat there if you want. There are even pinatas over by the registers if you are going to have a birthday party.
I realize that it's not just mexicans and latinos who can appreciate this store and all of its cases filled with loveliness, but WE will be the ones singing along to the musica en espanol which is rockin' throughout the store ;)

Very good Mexican Market for shopping for those hard to get items the main stream markets don't have. The meat for grilling is very fresh due to the large numbers of customers usually ordering. Mexican cheeses, Masa for Tamales, Pan Dulce, and just about anything else you can think of you'll find here. I deducted a star because now matter what time I've gone it seems the freaking parking lot is full like it was Christmas! Oh well I'm not going to stop going but It would be nice to be able to park. See ya there.

thats where all the hotties are at!!!!
This is my favorite Northgate!! It was the first Northgate i went to and it has been the best so far. I have been to 2 here in LA and they do no compare to the selection th SD Northgate has to offer. This location has the different aquachiles and the OG aquachile. It has everything I have been lookin for in a Hispanic market plus some. It's a store every latin american can appreciate. Pupusas, Chicharron, ensalada de nopales, flan, arrond con leche w/ raisins MHHHMMMH, pastel de tres leches, and the list goes on. I miss you my SD Northgate!!! You will always be number 1 in my heart!!!
Oh and on the weekends they have hotties playing MAriachi music throughout the store...

Mexican expat and needing to feel a bit like home? Go here!
I love this place, lots and lots of produce, lots of meat, lots of Mexican products, and of course the taqueria, tortilleria, and carniceria that actually serves decent Fritanga is not bad at all!! All at a reasonable price? For real tho? Pho Sho!!
I go here once a week, get my fill of Mexican products, that is unless I go to Tijuana to do my thang (not the whores) and brave the lines going back to SD.
Recommend the taqueria, carniceria, and their tortillas aren't half bad either. Oh yeah, the panaderia will certainly condemn you to an early death, but hey...free will rules, right??

Dude: score! I am so glad I found this place. I went in search of some huitlacoche so I could attempt to replicate the quesadillas I had at El Borrego restaurant. I had looked all over to no avail until Northgate. Yes, there it was priced considerably less than what I was about to pay to have it shipped from an on-line supplier. Oh, and I found a bunch of other stuff I had been looking for, like Inka Kola, the Peruvian soda. (they also have a wide variety of other Latin American soft drinks) I found maize morado I can use to replicate the chica morada drink I so enjoy at Latin Chef restaurant. The hard-to-find aji amarillo needed to make those Peruvian specialties like aji gallina. They have a bunch of good stuff, including a fish counter that I might actually order from. (unlike some of the other fish counters I have come across). Hey dude: you can even buy a nice acoustic guitar for $16.99. Take the 805 S exit 43rd st and just go straight into the parking lot. Easy to get to, low prices, very clean, and no super long checkouts (when I went).

This place is amazing. I could babble semi-incoherently about how much I love it, but I'll relegate my review to main points.
They have two extensive meat counters and a seafood selection I have yet seen rivaled in San Diego, and the prices are cheaper.
The produce department goes on for ages, with both typical and hard-to-find items stacked fresh and high (they have prickly pears whole with prickles, prickl-less, and cubed in little baggies, by way of example).
There is a full bakery and tortilleria, and the bulk dry good selection is so extensive it's intimidating trying to plan a menu in one's head while wandering around.
The take-out food is at the very least good. Their homemade salsas are very fresh and very delicious.
The market is extraordinarily clean and well-stocked, and reasonable prices reign supreme. It's best if you speak Spanish, otherwise you might get a bit confused looking for some obscure item with no way to ask if it exists. Although my personal experience leads me to believe that they have everything here. Everything.
Grocery shopping is so often a bitter experience, what with the pretentious over-pricing of Trader Joe's and Whole Foods, or the scary produce and filthy floors of any number of the SD chains. This place makes a new category for itself. Check it out.
