Help!
I'm a native Californian. My partner has convinced me that the only time we can get back to Cambridge to see her family in mid-January. We're renting a car but will be staying in the extra bedroom at her parents! She hasn't really lived there for about 5 years.
How can I not go crazy?
I'll take any suggestions: day trips, restaurants, museums, crack houses. I don't care - just get me out of the house regularly.
Thanks Yelppers!

You may want to leave that car at her parents when you're exploring certain areas of Boston. Parking is expensive and often impossible to find in the city, and traffic can be hard to handle -- even for those of us who have driven in SoCal! Public transit is great in Boston, though; the T will get you from point A to B, C, D and E without the headaches.

You might want to go up to Kittery Maine and do some outlet shopping. It's about an hour and a half away, you can stop at the super cheap New Hampshire liquor store off the highway on the way, enjoy some cold seabreezes and a lobster. It's easy to get to if you need directions.
If you ski, there are lots of other options up north.

Check out the Museum of Fine Arts, that's a whole day in itself. If you have a student ID it's free on weekdays.

Another great place for shopping is the Wrentham Outlets. Located in Wrentham Mass, maybe 45-1hr from Boston. If you are in Cambridge you should check out all of the boutiques in Harvard Square. The North End has some great restaurants, and if you are out late night, you should stop by Mike's Pastries for some canolis. Also, Pompeii is an italian restaurant in the North end, and it is open til maybe like 4 AM? Hope I've helped.
