I am beginning to suspect that no 'destination' restaurant is open on Sundays in Chicago. I will be in town for business on Sunday, October 30th and was looking forward to Trotter's or Frontera Grill but no dice.
Any suggestions for a great Chicago meal on a Sunday night?

We are staying somewhere south of Chicago and would be just coming in for dinner before checking in at the hotel. Any suggestion in Chicago proper or to the south a bit would be welcome.
As far as the food is concerned, my workmates were initially shooting for fine dining but at this point I think we are open. Something that to open the eyes of jaded San Franciscan food lovers.

Arun's is on or nearly on par with Trotter's in terms of inventiveness, and offers a ten or twelve-course tasting menu. An award-winning place. Go to:
www.arunsthai.com.
I assume you also tried for a table at Topolobampo if you contacted Frontera?
Sunday evenings can be a tall order, but there's got to be something. Also, if you're accustomed to fine dining in SF, I hope we can satisfy!
Which hotel? South side of Chicago, or a town south of Chicago?

This is absolutely my last suggestion for the night: Tru.

They are known for great imaginative food, and a rockin' art gallery with Warhols and others. I haven't been there yet but several of my very fussy friends have been impressed.

Ellen, thanks so much for the suggestions. We are staying in someplace called Matteson. We figure we are too far out to dine Monday, so we intend a nice meal on Sunday before we head south.
And, yep, Topolobampo is also closed on Sundays. Anything else you think of please don't hesitate.

Oh my, you are staying pretty far south indeed. I'll work on it, I do know a few people who live in the far south suburbs.

Tallgrass in Lockport, IL (west of Matteson) is one of the best of Chicagoland - I'd call it a destination restaurant. If you're looking for something closer to Matteson, consider Burgundy Bistro in Olympia Fields.

David, thanks for the clues. I'll check for availability on both those.

I really enjoy the Berhoff located in downtown. I don't know the southern burbs too well to offer any more nearby suggestions.
